What We've Done

PROVIDED INFORMATION:

Produced PSAs addressing alcohol poisoning, binge drinking, social hosting and the monitoring/securing/disposing of unused prescription drugs

Educated national policy makers by sending 5 members to Washington, D.C. CADCA Forum

Worked with Code Enforcement, Health Department, Physicians, and Sheriff’s Office to support the passage of a prescription drug ordinance that implements mandatory Prescription Drug Monitoring Program and ensure safe Rx in Manatee County.

Published Safe Community Festival Booklet

ENHANCED SKILLS

Launched the Florida Engaging Youth Initiative by training students how to scan (paper/pencil) community festivals serving alcohol and identify unsafe practices, then preparing them so they can report findings to festival planners.

Provided responsible alcohol vendor training to retail merchants (without cost) to increase knowledge and skills that reduce alcohol sales to underage youth.

ENHANCED ACCESS/REDUCED BARRIERS TO RESOURCES

Initiat4ed Project Drug Drop with MCSO resulting in 560 pounds of presceipt9o drugs collected – permanent drop established at Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

Enhanced drug free workplace program by partnering with Manatee County Chamber of Commerce and National Drug free Workplace Alliance.

Participated in regional effort to train doctors and provide SafeRx materials

The Coalition meets every second Wednesday, 3:00-4:15 PM, United Way Community Room, 1701 Tamiami Trail West (14th Street W), Bradenton. Meetings are open to the public. See schedule in "Events" on Homepage.
